Project Note / Custom Fabrication
A flame video started the conversation. The harder questions concerned what was behind the flame.
An industrial customer in Europe approached us about replacement quartz burners for an existing working setup. The requirement was not simply to reproduce a burner head. The new parts had to match a specific gas-control arrangement, suitable handles, and two different ways of working.
The order included four custom quartz burners: seven-jet and larger multi-jet designs, with lengths ranging from 300 to 1,000 mm, together with four three-channel metal handles.
Three Gas Paths, One Interface
Each handle had three independently controlled gas paths:
Dedicated fuel supply
Centre flame control
Surrounding jet control
That distinction matters. A burner can look correct from the outside and still be wrong at the connection.
Before fabrication, we worked through the gas routing, mating dimensions, compression fittings, hydrogen inlet size, and the interface between the quartz section and metal handle. We also clarified the intended use: shorter burners mounted in position, longer versions handled manually.
These are not secondary details. They determine whether the new burner can fit the equipment and be used as intended. Actual operating performance must still be verified in the customer’s setup.
A Model Name Is Not a Complete Specification
One larger design was referred to as a “36-core” burner during ordering. Counting the separately supplied centre flame, the finished head has 37 flame outlets. The design had not changed; the counting convention needed to be made explicit.
The Specification Must Carry Through to Shipment
As the project developed, the scope came to include matching metal handles as well as the quartz burners. We coordinated the component details, revised order documents, protective wooden-crate packing, and shipping information with the customer’s nominated freight forwarder.
At this stage, the objective was simple: the parts described in the order, the parts packed in the crate, and the parts listed on the commercial documents should all correspond.
What to Confirm Before Requesting a Quote
For replacement or custom quartz burners, four pieces of information make the first technical review more useful:
- Burner-head geometry, jet layout, and overall dimensions
- Separate gas paths and intended supply conditions
- Handle, hose, and compression-fitting dimensions
- Whether the burner will be fixed in place or handheld
A custom quartz burner is defined as much by its connections as by its flame.
